About Sri Ramakrsna donning sari: Yes, my friends & I
always understood this to mean He was trying to identify
more with the Mother. In a similar way, Amma donned some
traditionally male attire, or at least the markings of the
male god Krishna, to further manifest Krishna Bhav.
It is disconcerting for outsiders to misunderstand such
activity. Though *technically* such activities are a form
of "transvestism," such dress in and of itself does not
indicate any sexual connotation. One can observe that
several types of cross-dressing, such as purely theatrical
(Kabuki, Kathakali dancers, etc), have no bearing on the
wearer's sexual identification. (However, I don't wish to
place judgment on cross-dressing as part of any lifestyle.)
As has been observed here in the past, Western
intellectuals have tendency to psychoanalyze everything
and, according to *their* worldview, such theories are more
understandable. Westerners also seem to sexualize
everything, perhaps.

Interesting; I had not heard of this. Can you tell me more?
Thanks.
