Namaste most dear Children of Amma, my
darling sisters and brothers!!
i had written a couple months or more ago
to Ram Dass on his RDTapes website...i had been
reading his latest...Still Here...and it's such a
wonderful book, filled with such a lot of love
and light, that i just had to write to him,
thanking him for all his wonderful pioneering
work (in the West at least...) and especially for
that last
book...as it had contained very deep teachings
for me in the realm of suffering.
Ram Dass' Guru, Neem Karoli Baba, always
used to say that He loved pain because it helped
to bring Him closer to God....and this entire
book is basically about that...how the suffering
associated with aging, disease and eventual death
doesn't have to be viewed with horror, but seen
as it is...a way of detaching us from this body,
from
this life, from this planet which is not our real
home....
i could relate to his stories of loss, and
so on, because i have been "blessed" with
Migraines for most of my life....and chronic
headaches too...so i could really identify with
how these diseases (such as stroke in his case)
could place severe limitations upon one's
life....it has been an "interesting" series of
lessons let us say...
i even asked Mother one time (96) what to
do about these migraines and headaches...Amma
looked concerned and told Swamiji
(Amritaswarupananda) to tell me that i should put
vibhuti on my head when having a headache, and
that She would do a Sankalpa for
me....Great!!!thought i...the headaches are
gone.....
But wait a moment....Amma being my Guru,
just made sure i'd bring it up with Her, to
formalize things....just so we both knew where we
stood, and then do you know what She did? She
blessed me with even MORE headaches and
Migraines....now all sorts of things proved to be
triggers which had been fine before...chocolate,
wine....you name it...even nuts, bananas...tons
of stuff...So i now know that She is not
necessarily going to take it away...but is
instead using the
migraines to "train" Her reluctant and lazy
little son.... "You like Chocolate???? How about
with Migraine? still like it???how about some
more Migraine...."and so on...
She even let me know the true state of affairs
almost immediately after, at San Ramon, when She
had Swami Premananda from Reunion to give a
reluctant satsang....and he told about his friend
with a skin disease who was so devasted by it
that she wouldn't even go out...no job...stayed
home all the time...not that it was dangerous,
but it was unsightly....white patches...so he had
suggested to go see Amma and maybe She would help
the lady....the lady agreed, in desperation and
they headed from Reunion island to Amma's ashram,
where the lady asked Amma to help Her....
apparently Amma said "skin disease?...no
problem!!!Put this vibhuti on the skin and Amma
will do a sankalpa for you".....and suggested she
should stay a while...a few weeks later Swamiji
returns to Amma's ashram to find the lady still
with the disease, but entirely changed in her
attitude...this lecture only 3 or 4 days after
Amma said She'd do a sankalpa for my
migraines....Can i put 2 and 2 together???
and this was one of the two times that Amma
has allowed me to come to the San Ramon ashram!!!
i was given my name that time too...after just
Asking Amma in morning Darshan line once
again...and being told to sit on the stage behind
Amma...After an hour and a half of sheer bliss,
looking at or rather drinking in Amma's giving
darshan to all Her darling children...gazing in
awe at all their lovely Gopi faces as they came
up to their Beloved....oh it was so
heart-melting...and then my legs got sore...my
mind wandered to them...and at that moment Amma
turned and looked at me with one of "those"
looks...."can't sit still any more son....ok.
here's your name...." and turned to Dayamrita
Brahmachari, saying something to him....he turned
to me and told me my name...handing me the sheet
of paper with it on....visvanathan....
anyways i shared some of this with Ram Dass
(not about the name!or Swami's "skin disease"
lecture) to illustrate why i could so closely
identify with the themes of his wonderful
book...and also suggested that if he felt like
it, he should go and see Amma when She comes to
California....She might help him...
(forward of me isn't it!!....) and sent it off to
him...never really expecting a reply, as he
is such a busy man...
today there was a short letter
from the RDtapes site...i'll reproduce it below:
"I have experienced one of those divine hugs
from your guru. It put me in
ecstasy.
We have been graced to understand what
Maharajji
meant when he talked about
suffering.
In Love,
Ram Dass"
Being a "pioneer", he had
already been to see Her.....
In our Amma's Divine Love
